PLC raises $63,419 at Log A Load for Kids Northern Maine Golf Tournament Sept. 13

LINCOLN, ME – The Professional Logging Contractors (PLC) of the Northeast raised $63,419 at its 28th annual Log A Load for Kids Northern Maine Golf Tournament Friday, Sept. 13 at JaTo Highlands Golf Course.

The funds raised for Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine exceeded last year’s total of $59,251 and will go to support research and training, purchase equipment, pay for uncompensated care, and benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in a mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. More than 40 teams competed in the sold-out tournament.

“The dedication of the PLC’s loggers and truckers and our many friends and supporters in the industry to this cause never wavers no matter how difficult conditions in the industry may be,” Dana Doran, Executive Director of the PLC, said. “Once again this amazing group has stepped up faithfully to make a difference for the kids and their families, and I am very proud of everyone involved.”

The PLC holds two Log A Load golf tournaments in Maine each year to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in the state. The southern Maine tournament was held on August 23 and raised a record $47,843 for the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland, ME.

The PLC also raises funds for Log A Load at a live auction at its annual membership meeting each year and this year raised a record $186,007 at the event.

The PLC’s Log A Load efforts have now raised more than $2.4 million since 1995.

Maine’s loggers are a vital part of the state’s forest products sector, which is worth an estimated $8.1 billion annually. Logging contributed an estimated $582 million to the state economy in 2021.

Founded in 1995 by loggers who were concerned about the future of the logging and forest trucking industry, the PLC has grown steadily to become a regional trade association which provides independent logging contractors and truckers in the Northeast a voice in the rapidly changing forest products industry. Board membership consists of only loggers, making it an organization that is run by loggers on behalf of loggers.
