Maine Forest Rangers works on stubborn 10 acre fire in Danforth
DANFORTH, ME. The Maine Forest Service worked with several fire crews to put out a stubborn ten acre wildfire in a remote area near the New Brunswick border. The fire was spotted by an aircraft in New Brunswick and then a Civil Air Patrol flight -which had been patrolling for the Maine Forest Service- was sent over to assist. Three forest rangers worked with the Danforth Fire Department and a wildland firefighting crew from the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge to gain control of the fire. A forest ranger pilot also dropped 65 buckets of water (>15,000 gallons) on the fire and helped crews find their way in on the logging roads. The fire was in an active timber harvest area on a steep ridge and no structures were threatened. Two inmate fire crews from the Charleston Correctional facility were also used to mop-up the fire.
