Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®)
Since 2006, PLC has administered a Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) forest management certificate for a group of family forest landowners throughout New England and New York. The FSC Standard is an internationally recognized framework of forest management that acknowledges a commitment to high environmental standards, social responsibility, and economic stability. Under this arrangement forest landowners can inexpensively gain access to FSC certification.
Members of the PLC group develop and implement forest management plans guided by their own objectives and management philosophy. Members commit to using third party certified logging companies when harvesting forest products. The involvement of a third-party certified logging company (Master Logger Certification Program or SmartLogging certified) in the harvest of member properties will help provide a consistency of practice across all properties. Membership is open to any forest landowner in New England and New York.
PLC is committed to managing and supporting certified forestland in full compliance with the FSC Principles and Criteria, and related FSC policies and standards. Through this commitment we strive to ensure that our forest operations are environmentally appropriate, socially responsible and economically viable — meeting the needs of today while protecting the rights of future generations.
