PLC raises record $47,843 at Log A Load for Kids Southern Maine Golf Tournament Friday, Aug. 23
LOVELL, ME – The Professional Logging Contractors (PLC) of the Northeast raised a record $47,843 at its sixth annual Log A Load for Kids Southern Maine Golf Tournament Friday, Aug. 23.
The funds raised for the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (BBCH) in Portland, Maine exceeded the previous year’s record of $47,377, and the event was sold out for the first time in its history with 36 teams competing.
“A special thanks goes to our members, sponsors and participants for digging deep once again in a challenging time for the industry,” PLC Executive Director Dana Doran said at the conclusion of the event.
The PLC holds two Log A Load golf tournaments each year, including the southern Maine tournament at the Lake Kezar Country Club in Lovell, Maine in addition to the annual northern Maine tournament at JATO Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Maine. The northern Maine tournament will be held on Sept. 13.
All funds raised go to support Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals. BBCH is a CMN hospital.
The PLC also raises funds for Log A Load at a live auction at its Annual Membership Meeting each year and this year raised a record $186,007 at the event.
The PLC’s Log A Load efforts have now raised more than $2.4 million since 1995.
Maine’s loggers are a vital part of the state’s forest products sector, which is worth an estimated $8.1 billion annually. Logging contributed an estimated $582 million to the state economy in 2021.
Founded in 1995 by loggers who were concerned about the future of the logging and forest trucking industry, the PLC has grown steadily to become a regional trade association which provides independent logging contractors and truckers in the Northeast a voice in the rapidly changing forest products industry. Board membership consists of only loggers, making it an organization that is run by loggers on behalf of loggers.
