PLC raises record $70,000 at Log A Load for Kids Northern Maine Golf Tournament Friday, Sept. 18
LINCOLN, ME – The Professional Logging Contractors (PLC) of the Northeast raised a record $70,000 at its 30th annual Log A Load for Kids Northern Maine Golf Tournament Friday, Sept. 18.
Forty-one teams signed up for the sold-out event which raised funds for Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine that will go to support research and training, purchase equipment, and benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in a mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. Funds raised previously by the PLC helped the hospital purchase the Miracle 2 (NICU) ambulance.
PLC Executive Director Dana Doran announced the total funds raised at the end of the tournament, which took place under sunny skies at the scenic JaTo Highlands Golf Course.
A final donation coming in after the conclusion of the tournament from an anonymous donor pushed the total up by more than $6,000 to a new record.
“We beat last year’s total and we couldn’t do it without all of you so thank you deeply from all of us for all that you did today, all the donations, all the help, all the assistance,” Doran said. “At the end of the day it is all about the kids, so whenever you can give to Log A Load for Kids please do, and we can’t wait to see you next year, we are we scheduled for Sept. 17 in 2027 right here at JaTo Highlands.”
This year the tournament was dedicated to the memory of Al Beeson, Grog Crawford Jr., and Teresa Hanington – all longtime supporters of the event and its mission who were recognized at the start of the tournament. Family members of those honored were on hand for remarks recalling the generosity and commitment of Beeson, Crawford, and Hanington.
The PLC holds two Log A Load golf tournaments each year, including the southern Maine tournament at Lake Kezar Country Club in Lovell, Maine in addition to the annual northern Maine tournament at JaTo Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Maine. The southern tournament was held on Aug. 28 and raised a record $55,407.
All funds raised by the tournaments go to support Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) hospitals.
The PLC also raises funds for Log A load at a live auction at its Annual Membership Meeting each year and this year raised $134,610 at the event.
The PLC’s Log A Load efforts have now raised more than $3 million since 1995. In 2025, the PLC raised $292,746.
The PLC partners with the BBCH and Northern Light Health Foundation in Maine for its annual Log A Load fund drive as well as the University of Vermont Children’s Hospital in Burlington, Vermont.
The PLC and the Northern Light Health Foundation (formerly Eastern Maine Health Systems Foundation) have partnered in the Log A Load fund-raising effort since 1996. BBCH joined the Log A Load effort in 2019 and all donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all in support of the mission to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. BBCH and Northern Light in Bangor both have Neonatal Intensive Care Units that have received support for years from the PLC’s Log A Load efforts. The University of Vermont (UVM) Children’s Hospital, a regional referral center for most critically ill or injured pediatric patients, houses a Level 3 neonatal intensive care unit, a pediatric intensive care unit and a wide range of pediatric specialties and sub-specialties.UVM Children’s Hospital became a partner with PLC’s Log A Load efforts in 2024.
Founded in Maine in 1995 by a handful of loggers who were concerned about the future of the forest economy, the PLC has grown steadily to become a regional non-profit which provides independent logging and forest trucking contractors a voice along with a suite of other forest certification programs which are grounded in responsible forest management. Board membership consists of only loggers, making it an organization that is run by loggers on behalf of loggers.
