207-688-8195 Professional Logging Contractors of the Northeast

LOVELL – The Professional Logging Contractors (PLC) of Maine raised a record $47,377 at its fifth annual Log A Load for Maine Kids Southern Maine Golf Tournament Friday, Aug. 25 despite steady rain for most of the day.

The funds raised for Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals in Maine exceeded last year’s previous record of $44,207, and the event was well attended despite the weather.

“I want to thank all of you for your generosity today,” PLC Executive Director Dana Doran said at the conclusion of the event. “I know it was not the greatest of conditions, but I thought you all did a wonderful job and at the end of the day it was all about the kids.”

Four years ago, the PLC expanded its fund-raising efforts to hold two Log A Load golf tournaments, adding a new southern Maine tournament at the Kezar Lake Country Club in Lovell, Maine in addition to the annual northern Maine tournament at JATO Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, Maine. The northern Maine tournament will be held on Sept. 15.

The PLC partners with the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (BBCH) at Maine Medical Center in Portland for the southern tournament.

“If we’ve learned anything from the Log A Load partnership and the logging community in Maine, it’s that rain or shine they’re going to show up for our kids because they believe deeply in this cause,” Kate Richardson, CMN Senior Philanthropy Manager for BBCH, said. “Despite the challenging golf conditions last week, the 5th annual Southern Maine golf tournament was our best yet. That is clearly a reflection of the generosity of this group of people and their belief that local kids deserve the very best health care available. We’re truly grateful.”

The PLC partners with both BBCH and Northern Light Health Foundation for its annual Log A Load fund drive. BBCH in Portland and Northern Light in Bangor are both CMN Hospitals.

In addition to the two golf tournaments, the PLC also raises funds for Log A Load through an auction at its Annual Meeting each year. This year’s auction in May raised $127,723.

The PLC and the Northern Light Health Foundation (formerly Eastern Maine Health Systems Foundation) have partnered in the Log A Load fund-raising effort since 1996. BBCH joined the Log A Load effort in 2019 and all donations have gone to support research and training, purchase equipment, and pay for uncompensated care, all in support of the mission to save and improve the lives of as many children in Maine as possible. BBCH and Northern Light in Bangor both have Neonatal Intensive Care Units that have received support for years from the PLC’s Log A Load efforts. To date, efforts have raised $2.075 million.
