Safety and risk are major cost drivers for logging and trucking companies. Thus, finding ways to reduce both has always been a focus of the PLC to ensure its members remain profitable. The PLC collaborates extensively with insurance companies, state agencies, and health organizations to ensure our safety material is up to date and focused on the logging industry. The following options are available free to PLC Members and Master Loggers: Northeast Safe Logger – Online Safety Course, Annual Safety Workshops, CPR & First Aid Training.

At this time, Responsible Logger is only available to employees of PLC Members and Master Logger Certified companies. Being a professional logger means taking responsibility for high standards in all aspects of running a successful logging business. The PLC collaborates extensively with state agencies, equipment dealers, and other industry professionals to ensure the topics and content of our workshops are relevant to the issues contractors are facing. The following options are available for free to PLC Members and Master Loggers: Northeast Responsible Logger – Online Best Practices Course, Master Logger Best Practices Workshops, and Ongoing Leadership/Management Training.

Development and reinforcement of technical skills is an ongoing practice for professional loggers. The PLC collaborates extensively with Maine community colleges, state agencies, and high school forestry/logging programs to attract and prepare operators for high-performance logging and trucking careers. The Mechanized Logging Operations and Forest Trucking (MLOFT) program is available through the Maine Community College System, and Truck Driver (CDL) Theory training is available for free to PLC Members and Master Loggers.
