An online safety training program for new entrants to the logging industry. Upon completion of training, participants will qualify for the discounted “certified logger” rate for workers’ compensation insurance in the State of Maine. The program includes 16 hours of interactive online training with quizzes to assess learning on a variety of topics including: PPE, separation of operations, first aid, lock-out & tag-out for logging equipment, and flammable & combustible liquids. It can be completed on a computer, tablet, or smart phone, and can be done at the user’s own pace and schedule. This program is free for PLC members and Master Loggers.

Many training initiatives have been developed to address specific safety needs in the industry. In 2010, safety training workshops were first offered throughout the region during mud season. Partners in the insurance industry shared recurring safety issues they were observing, and efforts were made to work with members to address those issues. Over time, this has become an annual program, with more than a dozen logger and fleet safety workshops offered throughout the region. Last year alone, over 1,000 loggers participated in these workshops. These events are free to PLC members and Master Loggers.

CPR and First Aid courses are available to logging companies in the region as needed or requested. These sessions have been designed specifically for the logging industry and the unique operating conditions encountered in the field. These sessions are free for PLC members and Master Loggers.
